At Ọgbọ́n, we are primarily focused on publishing African writers and pushing African literature beyond the borders. We are glocal [global and local influences] in our ideology, and we seek works that fit our narrative.
Submissions should either be Poetry, Prose, or Art/Art Reviews. For Poetry: We accept poems of any length, form, or style. Please send only two poems at a time. At Ọgbọ́n, we love to see experimental works either in structure, theme, or even subject matter. We provide a stage for everyone. For Prose: Please send a maximum of one story per submission call. Submit only original works that have not been previously published. We are looking forward to publishing stories within the range of 1500 – 3000 words. For Art: You can send up to two high-resolution artworks in JPEG or PNG format. Kindly attach the Art statement. We DO NOT accept AI-generated images or artwork. For Art Review: Send up to 1,500 words and attach the work you’re reviewing. Make sure that non-personal artwork for Art reviews is consented to by the artists.
All written submissions should be in Times Roman and sent as a Doc file. For the Art review, make sure to attach the image as a file instead. For the Artworks, please keep them within 50MB. Submissions should include a cover letter and a Short bio within 100 words.
For themed submissions, make sure that the works follow the theme. Our response time is a month after the submission deadline.
In supporting African literary culture, Ọgbọ́n Review is offering a publication fee to all contributors. Each contributor will be paid $20 or its equivalent in local currencies. We DO NOT charge submission fees. All submissions are free of charge.
Ọgbọ́n Review operates a quarterly cycle for paid submissions. This means that every three months, selected contributors will receive payment for their accepted works. All submissions are always welcome, but payment is specifically allocated during these quarterly cycles. We believe this system allows us to balance sustainability with our commitment to compensating creators.
Prize: The Essay Editor Prize for the best essay published in a year is ₦200,000 (or its equivalent in local currencies).
